Richard A. Schmidt is a home town lawyer focused on assisting every day people navigate through the legal system. After being honorably discharged from active service with the United States Army, Richard graduated Cum Laude from the University of Texas at Arlington with a Bachelor's degree in Psychology. He then received a scholarship to attend St. Thomas University School of Law in Miami, Florida where he received his Juris Doctorate degree. Richard has been licensed to practice law in the State of Texas since 2004. Richard worked in public service as an Assistant District Attorney for Van Zandt County and then, later, as First Assistant District Attorney. During his tenure as an Assistant District Attorney, Richard prosecuted every level of juvenile and criminal offense, from Class C Misdemeanors to Capital Murder. Richard takes his intimate knowledge of the criminal justice system and applies it to the zealous representation of good people who find themselves caught up in the system.  

In private practice, Richard has aided people with their criminal defense needs, those going through divorce or facing child custody disputes, and a wide array of domestic relations issues. Richard also takes pleasure in aiding small business get started, navigate through their employment issues, and helping them resolve business disputes with vendors, customers, or regulatory entities.  

Although no attorney can guarantee a particular result, he works on your behalf to see your matter resolved in a manner that will allow you to move on with your life with as little impact as possible.

Jonathon Manning

Associate Attorney

Jonathon Manning is an attorney with the Law Office of Richard Schmidt and makes his home in Canton, Texas. 

Jonathon graduated from Dallas Baptist University with a Bachelor's degree in Philosophy. He then attended Texas Wesleyan School of Law on scholarship. There he was selected to be a part of the Public Service Law Fellowship, interning at the Dallas County Public Defender’s Office. Jonathon enjoyed competing in mock trial and alternative dispute resolution competitions across the nation as well as being the Chairman of the Alternative Dispute Resolution committee for the Board of Advocates. Prior to being licensed, Jonathon interned in the juvenile and criminal divisions of the Tarrant County District Attorney’s Office as well as the Galveston County District Attorney’s Office. Jonathon received his Juris Doctorate degree from Texas A&M School of Law and has been licensed to practice law in the State of Texas since 2015. 

Jonathon previously worked in public service as an Assistant District Attorney for Van Zandt County. During his tenure, Jonathon managed a high-volume caseload working through the ranks and handling every level of criminal offense, from Class C Misdemeanors to First Degree Felony. He managed cases through the entire process of the justice system from intake to appeal, allowing a thorough understanding of the of the justice system to enable him to zealously and effectively advocate for good people who find themselves caught up in the system.  

At the Law Offices of Richard Schmidt, Jonathon is focused on helping people with their criminal defense needs and is equipped to deal with clients who are going through a divorce, needing a child custody agreement, or are who are planning for their estate to pass to their family.
